Familiar Faces

Remzi Yılmaz’s fourth solo exhibition, “Familiar Faces,” opened on April 2, 2024, on World Autism Awareness Day at Barın Han and concluded on May 4, 2024.

The exhibition explored metaphorical themes of everyday life and popular imagery through a narrative approach. Themes such as women, friends, monsters, and animals were prominent, with the fairy tale character Aladdin playing a central role in the narrative. The artist transformed his life experiences into a continuous practice of creation, demonstrating that art can be a tool for expression and communication. Through his works, Yılmaz engaged in dialogue with people, objects, and heroes, telling his own story.

Along with this, Remzi Yılmaz performed a live piece. This performance highlighted the vibrancy and boundlessness of art. Participants experienced an unforgettable moment as Remzi Yılmaz created his work on the wall. Additionally, the event featured discussions by Caner Yedikardeş, one of the exhibition’s curators, and Meltem Yılmaz, Remzi Yılmaz’s mother, who spoke about the creation process of the exhibition and the role of art in the lives of individuals with autism. Organized with the support of maumau, the exhibition explored metaphorical themes of everyday life and popular imagery through a narrative approach.
